“If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20 (NLT)

Take a moment to imagine what it would feel like to live in that kind of world — a world where nothing would be impossible. Imagine a world where by your own mere words mountains could move, storms could cease, light could appear, and life could be wrought. Now what if I were to tell you that this world you have just imagined is not an unreachable fantasy but a gift of reality. By your mere words, all these things and more can be done, simply by having a little faith. You live in a world where your only limitations are your own expectations.

Brianna’s Story

It was by faith that Brianna Silvey, one of our very own students, was brought into the JRLC family. In 2005, Brianna begin sensing the Lord was calling her to go to James River Church for her post-high school education. At that time, JRC offered a program called Masters Commission—James River Leadership Campus had yet to exist. Brianna, at age 8, excited for the ministry and purpose God was calling her to, approached her parents with the idea of attending Masters Commission. However, Bri’s excitement was matched by her parent’s objections. Instead of being angry with her parents, or discouraged by her circumstance, Brianna began to pray and God began to grow her faith.Brianna Silvey

Brianna and her parents began to research what it would look like for ministry to be a career. They discussed the facts: finances, loans, job instability, and likelihood of success. Brianna’s Dad felt more strongly than ever that, “Ministry is not a way of life.” Still not discouraged, Brianna ultimately knew this:

“I do not live by the standard that the world tells me to have, but I live by faith.”

Bri continued to pray. She began asking that the Lord would give her parents the same perspective the He had given her. Brianna knew that this was no longer just a dream, but a calling from the Lord.

Over time, Brianna watched as God opened doors and softened her parents’ hearts.  In 2010, James River Leadership Campus was founded, accredited through Evangel University, with an affordable, practical Associate of Arts degree in Leadership. The Lord had heard Brianna’s prayers and JRLC was the answer –And the miracles did not stop! Brianna’s parents’ hearts were completely softened. They began to speak in faith, as Brianna had done, saying, “We know this is where God wants you.”

The impossible became possible through Brianna’s faith. Our faith has power, not because of the size of our faith, but because of the size of our God whom we put our faith in. It only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to make mountains move because we are praying to the God who made the mountains. Students, I encourage you today, that no matter what you’re facing, no matter what storms are raging, no matter what darkness is around you, God is ready to move those mountains. He is ready to calm those storms. He is ready to bring life into your situation. Are you ready to believe him?

Perhaps, as you are reading this, God is calling you to JRLC, just as he did Brianna. Don’t let your fears cause you to miss out on what God has for you! Look to the God, who is in control of it all! Contact us, and in faith we will pray alongside of you. If you feel called to JRLC, why not start your application today?
